Judo

The origin and development of Judo as a combative sport demonstrates the superiority of techniques over strength. Judo was established in 1882 in Japan as a modern sport by Professor Jigoro Kano (1860- 1938). Jigoro Kano took techniques from the various jujitsu schools, which had been the dominant Japanese combative art for hundreds of years, and refined, created and finally established as modern combative sport, Judo.

Professor Kano devoted his life to the education and popularization of judo and laid the foundation of the present day Judo. Judo, the only Olympic sport that originated in Asia, is unique and has a history of international character as an established sport, and it greatly owes to the personality and efforts of the founder, Jigoro Kano.

Here at AKF Martial Arts Dragon Kyukido, we offer Judo as a separate course of study. However, the training in Kyuki-do offers the students and opportunity to experience some Judo. The fact is, a quarter of the practice of Kyuki-do are the techniques of Judo.

FBI statistics show that 90% of all fights end up on the ground, where a Martial Art based on kicks and strikes is almost useless. If you are interested in self-defense, or for the individual that is interested in learning a grappling Martial Art, Judo is an excellent choice.
